The last week of our holiday was spent at the MacDonald Lochanhully Woodland Club situated inside the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland. We chose this resort because it was the most northern place in the UK where we could find accommodation and we thought we may have another chance at glimpsing the aurora. The week was mostly dark, cloudy, rainy and snowy, so no chance of the northern lights, unfortunately.
We spent our days exploring the national park which, strangely enough, had villages and the ruins of long-abandoned castles dotted here and there in it - not at all like any of the nature reserves we have in South Africa that are dedicated preserved areas. The closest little towns to our resort are Carrbridge and Aviemore, and the nearest city is Inverness. Although we had many fun outings, we were always glad to return to our little cabin in the woods at the end of the day.
